Learn with Yotam
Unlike many artists who teach, I approach education with scientific attention to methodology and improvement. Not only do I try to foster an appreciation for art and art-making, my goal is to provide visual problem-solving skills that are applicable to other disciplines and ways of comprehending the world. Several of my students have continued in successful professional art careers, and all have had their lives enriched by this experience.
Drawing & Painting
I teach drawing and oil painting in a range of styles and with a versatile combination of technical approaches. For the most part I am against dogmatic ways of guiding students into and through these disciplines, and I prefer to innovate atelier methods than to regurgitate them. Although my students have ranged from absolute beginners to established professional artists, I enjoy the challenge of customizing curricula to suit my students' goals. I specialize in introducing beginners to fundamental concepts and techniques of observational drawing and realistic painting.

Private Individual Lessons
I am available for private individual lessons in my Brooklyn (NY) studio, the student's home or preferred location, or at another suitable venue such as a local art museum, Mondays, Tuesdays, or Thursdays between 9:30 am and 2:00pm (including travel time to/from Downtown Brooklyn) in the New York City metropolitan region.
All lesson plans are customized to suit student need and ability.
I am also available for correspondence lessons and consultation via phone and email throughout the week.
Please contact me to inquire about rates, scheduling, and other details.
Private Group Lessons
As of September 2016 I am teaching an advanced private painting group that meets at Bergen Studio in Boerum Hill, Brooklyn, Wednesdays from 11am to 2pm. One additional seat is available.
Rates: USD 250 per six, 3-hour sessons, plus materials.
As this is an advanced group, a prior assessment of any prospective student's ability will be required in order to join.
Please contact me to inquire about joining. Bergen Studio is a private location; its address will be disclosed only upon acceptance.
I encourage prospective private students who have interested friends or colleagues to organize groups for private lessons; as class sizes increase, individual costs decrease.
